A Pride flag has been cut down outside Stamford Town Hall.

The rainbow flag was flying to mark Pride Month, but the ropes were cut at some point between Friday evening and Monday morning.

A spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police said officers were investigating the theft of the flag and damage to the pole and ropes.

Stamford's mayor, Kelham Cooke, said it was "disappointing" to see in such an "inclusive" town.

Writing on social media, he added: "Stamford has always been a welcoming place and it's a shame that someone has done this."

Mr Cooke said CCTV footage was being reviewed and a new flag and ropes would be ordered.
