Man arrested after hammer, axe and knife attack

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after two men were seriously injured in an altercation involving a hammer, an axe and a knife on Monday morning.

Gloucestershire Police said officers were called to Queensway near Coleford shortly before 01:00 BST to reports of a fight involving weapons.

Both men received serious injuries and were flown to Southmead Hospital in Bristol by air ambulance with one, in his 40s, in a critical condition.

A police cordon remains in place at the scene.

The man who was arrested is in his 50s and is from Coleford.

Det Insp Faye Bennett said: “I would like to ask anyone who has information, no matter how big or small, to please report this to us as it will help the ongoing investigation.

“This could be about what happened or something which took place earlier in the day and may have led up to the altercation between the two men.”
