A village road in Nottinghamshire that has been shut for more than a month after a wall collapsed will remain closed for a further seven weeks for repairs.

Work to fix the wall in Town Street, Bramcote, began this week after it collapsed on 6 April.

Nottinghamshire County Council said it hoped to have the repairs completed by late June.

The authority has thanked residents and motorists for their patience.

Ben Richardson, landlord of The White Lion pub in Town Street, said the road closure had affected trade.

"We're really looking forward to the road re-opening as it has reduced the numbers of customers that get to us on foot," he said.

"The road closure signs have also deterred people from reaching the pub. In six weeks time, we hope everything will return to normal."

Bramcote resident Tim Wright, 58, said the closure had been tough for elderly people.

"The bus stops that are used by the elderly are no longer in use since the road closed," he said.

"They have to walk much further to access transport, which is a massive hinderance to their lives."

Nottinghamshire County Council said: “Repairs are now underway to the collapsed section of wall on Town Street in Bramcote.

“The works are expected to take up to seven weeks with the road due to reopen by late June.

“We thank road users for their patience whilst these essential works take place.”
