Hull City Council took the property owner to court after complaints from the public

A property owner has been ordered to pay more than £1,400 for not cleaning up her land.

Enforcement action was taken after complaints from the public, Hull City Council said.

Lynn Fish, of Doncaster Street, Hull, was convicted at Hull Magistrates' Court in June.

Fines and costs imposed by the court amounted to £1,413.

Doug Sharp, head of street cleansing and waste management at the council, said: “This successful prosecution demonstrates that we do not take these offences lightly and that we will always listen and respond to complaints from the public about untidy land.

“Occupiers and property owners must take responsibility for any waste on their land as it blights neighbourhoods and is unfair on other residents.

"We will continue to ensure that there are consequences for failing to take responsibility.”

The council said people should only use council tips and collection services or registered waste disposal firms to get rid of rubbish.
