Abortion rate highest since 2002, report finds

More abortions took place in Jersey in 2023 than at any time since 2002, a report has found.
The Termination of Pregnancy Report, external found about 260 pregnancies were terminated in 2023 - up from 240 in 2022.
In 2002, 270 pregnancies were terminated the report said.
It also found Jersey's abortion rate was higher than the EU average, with 327 abortions per 1,000 live births.
Three quarters of abortions in Jersey during the past three years were for women having their first termination, the report said.
It also found 92% of terminations were performed at fewer than 10 weeks, with 8% of terminations taking place at 10-12 weeks.
Women under 20 years old accounted for 12% of abortions between 2021 and 2023, with 69% of women aged between 20 to 34 years.
