Event highlights support for autistic people

A free event offering support to autistic people is being held at Leeds Playhouse.
AutistiCon 2024 will include workshops, an art exhibition, guest speakers and stalls run by local groups.
Last year, the event attracted 500 visitors, while 30 organisations set up stalls.
Tuesday's event is organised by local charities working with autistic people, with support from Leeds City Council.
Groups attending AutistiCon include social care services, diagnostic services and advocacy and support groups.
A quiet room will be open during the event, as well as space to build Lego models.
Philip Chan, the council's neurodiversity commissioning programme leader, highlighted the benefits of AutistiCon.
“Awareness of autism is increasing, but for autistic people and those who support them, knowing what help is available is tricky," he said.
"AutistiCon 2024 will see services come together to show that local support is available for autistic people.
"Whether it is low-level support like signposting or social care for those with extra support needs, there should be something for everyone.”
