Demolition of unused buildings begins at Overdale
- Published
The demolition of "dilapidated and unused" healthcare buildings at the new hospital site has begun.
Overdale has been proposed as the location for the new acute hospital which will include critical and emergency care, women and children's services, operating theatres, a renal unit and the "majority of inpatient wards".
The remainder of buildings on the site will be demolished in 2024 with plans to begin building the new hospital in 2025. The completion date is set for 2028 if the plans are approved by the States Assembly.
Rubble from the demolition will be used in the new building work.
Demolition began following the completion of the move of outpatient services from Overdale to the new centre in St Brelade in September.
Deputy Tom Binet, the Minister for Infrastructure, said early designs for the new hospital would be shared in early 2024.
He said it was a "significant milestone in the delivery of the new acute hospital that the island so desperately needs".
Islanders will be asked for their feedback on the designs.
