A man has pleaded guilty to the murder of a 23-year-old man who died following a stab attack.

Bradley Tams was found seriously injured in Slatyford, near Newcastle on 6 December and died at the scene.

Appearing at Newcastle Crown Court Gavin Train, 24, of Rothay Place, in the city, admitted murder.

He was remanded and will be sentenced on 22 July alongside two other people - one his mother - who pleaded guilty to violent disorder in connection with the case.

They are: Andrea Train, 49, also of Rothay Place and Lewis Allison, 24, of Roundhill Avenue, Blakelaw.

Northumbria Police said that on the evening of the attack, Train confronted Mr Tams about a previous dispute before a physical and verbal altercation ensued.

The victim fled the scene after suffering a single wound to his side, but died a short time later despite the efforts of emergency responders.

Bradley Tams was described as having an "infectious laugh and a beautiful smile"

Mr Tams was described by his family as "the funniest kid with an infectious laugh and a beautiful smile".

Following the guilty plea, Mr Tams' mother, Julie Weatherson, said: “It’s the sixth month anniversary since the death of Bradley and today he’s got the justice he deserved."

Det Ch Ins Katie Smith, from Northumbria Police, said: “Bradley was a beloved son, brother and father, and there is absolutely no justification for the course of events which led to his death.

“This case serves as yet another reminder that violence destroys lives and there is no place whatsoever for it in our communities.

“The decision to carry a weapon that night is the reason Bradley is no longer with us, and we have a very simple message to those who carry knives and choose to involve themselves in violence.

“Please think again – not only for your sake but for your family and loved ones too.”
