Drivers urged to obey school zone speed limits

Drivers have been urged to slow down on roads near schools after receiving complaints about speed limits not being obeyed.

The Isle of Man Constabulary said it had received "complaints about drivers speeding in and around school zones" since the start of the new school term.

The zones are designated by signs which are lit up at the start and end of the school day across the island.

The force said when illuminated the signs meant a 20mph (32km/h) speed limit was "mandatory and enforceable".

A police spokesperson added: "Please do not put a child in danger by rushing to get yours to school or yourself to work.

"Taking a little more time and care helps keep our island and our children safe."

Drivers have also been urged to respect the school crossing patrols in place at many schools.
