A former police officer crossed the Humber Bridge "about 99 times" for "private or domestic reasons" while using a force tag, a police misconduct hearing has found.

The officer resigned before the hearing, which took place in March, but the ruling said they would have been sacked for gross misconduct.

The PC made the crossings between February 2021 and March 2023, raising a bill of £133.65.

Humberside Police said the offence was a "breach of honesty and integrity, and duties and responsibilities".

The force has not been reimbursed for the charges.

Humberside Police said it allows some officers to use the bridge tag system while on duty to not incur a charge but any other crossings need to be paid for.

Inspector Craig Atkin said: "As a police force we expect the upmost professionalism and integrity and will not tolerate anyone who abuses their position or uses public money for their own personal gain".

Figures seen by the BBC show that 60 Humberside Police officers, PSCOs or special constables have been dismissed since 2020 after a misconduct hearing or resigned before they took place.
