Christmas lights switch-ons across Isle of Man

Christmas lights are being switched on in towns around the Isle of Man this month, with festive events organised around the occasion.

Below is a guide to the switch-on events taking place around the island.

Douglas

In the island’s capital, the lights will be switched on at the Winter Wonderland on North Quay.

Free events begin at 17:30 GMT on Thursday, with the lights being illuminated at 19:00.

An outdoor cinema, fire show and Santa’s grotto are all included.

Council leader Clare Wells said: "We know that thousands of people come from all over the Island to see the lights and experience the Douglas atmosphere."

Ramsey

The light switch-on in Ramsey will take place at the town’s courthouse at 17:00 on Friday.

There will also be late night shopping, children’s rides and crazy golf, Father Christmas on his sleigh and a performance by the Roc Vannin choir at 18:50.

Onchan

The “Night of light” event in Onchan will be held on 27 November in Onchan Park, with the lights being illuminated at 18:00.

There will also be free children’s entertainment such as a treasure hunt, Santa’s grotto and face painting.

Christmas films will also be playing at an outdoor cinema from 18:15.

Peel

The lights in the western town of Peel will be switched on at 16:15 on 30 November.

The lighting up at Market Place will be centred around stalls, dancing and live music, from 14:00.

Castletown

Christmas lights will be lit up at 18:00 in Castletown on 7 December.

In the Market Square there will also be stalls from 10:30 onwards and entertainment from 15:30.
