A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson after a fire broke out in Ottershaw on Friday morning.

Emergency services attended the blaze on Bittams Lane and a 39-year-old from the area remains in custody.

He was also arrested for being in possession of an offensive weapon.

Surrey Police is investigating if the incident is linked to similar reports of a fire at Spinney Hill on the Ottershaw/Addlestone border at around 23.30 GMT on Thursday.

Part of the A320 Guildford Road was closed for a short time after Friday's fire and and officers remained at the scene to conduct their enquiries.

Anyone who might have information about what happened is urged to contact the force.
