Lottery profits give boost to Jersey charities

Sanctuary Trust received £30,000 from the Association of Jersey Charities

The Association of Jersey Charities says it has distributed more than £85,000 to organisations in the island.

It said a total of £86,268 was awarded by its grants committee during the third quarter of 2024.

The grants include £60,000 of profits from the Channel Islands Lottery and a further £26,268 from private donations.

Jill Ryan, chairwoman of the committee, said the money would help groups including Family Nursing & Home Care and the Sanctuary Trust "deliver critical services in the local community".

"As we near the end of the year and look ahead to 2025, it's a good time for people to reflect on how they could support charities through one-off donations or regular giving, and enable them to continue to do extremely valuable work in the island," she said.

'Crucial work'

The Sanctuary Trust, which provides accommodation for homeless men, received about £30,000.

General manager Sarah Tumelty said: "We are extremely grateful for the continued support.

"This year, their funding will cover the salary of one of our essential support workers.

"Without it, we would be unable to carry out the crucial work we provide to the community."
