School parking warning after pupil hit by car

A head teacher has warned parents not to park unsafely outside of a school after a pupil was hit by a car.
Andy Taylor, head at St Gabriel's CofE Academy in Houlton, Warwickshire, said the lack of a pedestrian crossing and inconsiderate parking had together contributed to what happened.
He said it was "incredibly fortunate" that the pupil escaped without any serious injuries.
Mr Taylor said the school had been in contact with Warwickshire County Council about installing further safety measures outside the school.
In a letter sent to parents on Wednesday, the head teacher asked parents to "think of others" during the school run.
"We ask that please, drivers simply must not park in or around crossing points, dropped curbs or in such a way that impedes visibility for those crossing the road or disrupts the smooth flow of traffic.
"We sadly observe on a daily basis, parking and manoeuvres that put pedestrians at risk."
Mr Taylor said the school had asked for a designated signal-controlled pelican crossing point to be installed, as well as an extended zig zag lined area covering the whole school frontage.
Warwickshire County Council and Warwickshire Police have been contacted for comment.
