Farmer accidentally fell into slurry pit - inquest

Islwyn Owen was found by a neighbour after being reported missing

A farmer died accidentally after falling into a slurry pit, an inquest has concluded.

Islwyn Owen, 67, from Gwynedd, fell into the pit at his farm near Bala after climbing on top of a short wall to adjust some machinery, the hearing in Caernarfon was told.

Mr Owen suffered asphyxia along with serious injuries to his right arm and chest caused by the machinery.

He had been reported missing on the evening of 4 September and was found by a neighbour about 90 minutes later.

Mr Owen was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics who were called out to the farm in Llanycil.

Coroner Kate Robertson ruled the death as accidental.

In a tribute issued following his death, Mr Owen's family said he would be "dearly missed by his family and friends".
