Missing paddleboarder 'alive and well' after appeal

An emergency response was triggered on Derwentwater after a paddleboard was found on Friday

A paddleboarder who was feared missing in Cumbria has been found "alive and well" after an emergency appeal.

A multi-agency response was triggered on Friday evening after a paddleboard with a snapped ankle leash was discovered floating unattended on Derwentwater.

Social media appeals to try and identify the missing person were launched, with a search carried out involving a helicopter, boat and the fire and rescue service.

Keswick Mountain Rescue Team, which gave an update on Sunday, said "apparently he was blown off his board but made it safely back to shore".

The team spotted the paddleboard on the lake as it was responding to another incident, where three canoeists had gotten into difficulty on the water.

Social media appeals had called for the paddleboard owner to make contact and let rescuers know they were safe.
