Man seriously injured in mountain bike fall

A man was airlifted to hospital after falling from his bike in the Peak District.

The mountain biker had been descending a peak in near Castleton in the High Peak when he fell on Saturday at about 15:30 BST.

Edale Mountain Rescue Team said the man suffered a serious injury.

He was treated at the scene before being transferred to a trauma unit in Sheffield by air ambulance, the rescue team said.

It added: "The biker was wearing a helmet which saved him from even more serious injuries."
