Schools to be Ofsted inspected for next four years

After being rated inadequate St Sampson's High School has been rated as a good school by Ofsted

Schools in Guernsey will be inspected by Ofsted for another four years after a new contract was signed with the organisation in June.

The Committee for Education, Sport and Culture (ESC) started the adoption of an inspection framework with Ofsted in 2018.

ESC President Paul Montague said the next step must be to "increase the proportion" of schools receiving 'excellent' ratings.

Almost all of Guernsey's States-run schools have been inspected by Ofsted in recent years.

Initially, a number of local schools received poor inspections, with St Sampson's High and Les Voies being rated inadequate in a number of areas.

Since then, the schools have received more positive reviews from inspectors, and in 2024, St Sampson's High was rated "good" across the board.

Most schools rated 'good'

Montague said: "The proportion graded good or better continues to exceed England with every school judged at least good for behaviour, personal development or where relevant, early years provision.

"Self-evaluation is now suggesting that several schools are close to meeting the criteria to be judged as excellent in a range of areas."

In recent months, Le Murier School received an "excellent" rating for personal development and welfare and Sixth-form provision, whilst Amherst Primary School was rated as "good" and "excellent" across the board.
