A man has been charged with 38 animal welfare offences after 19 dogs and the bodies of other animals were found at a property.

Police said they were discovered in "concerning conditions" at an address in Defoe Crescent, Colchester, on 26 August.

A 39-year-old man was arrested in connection with the finds and would appear at Ipswich Crown Court on 25 September, Essex Police said.

PC Tim Tittensor added: "We're continuing to build a picture of the full circumstances around the treatment of animals at this address."
