A Sussex-based charity is aiming to tackle loneliness through letter writing.

Together Co, a loneliness charity for Brighton, Hove and Sussex, has launched the Connection by Letter project, which aims to tackle isolation through encouraging strangers to write letters to one another.

Emily Daniel, head of insight and involvement at the charity, told BBC Radio Sussex that letter writing allows people to engage at their own pace and is "a flexible way for people to connect".

The scheme has been running for around six months and Ms Daniel said in that time more than 40 people have signed up.

Ms Daniel acknowledged that "loneliness is a growing issue" and said the charity hoped letter writing would help those who may be anxious to meet new people face-to-face.

The scheme is currently supported by the Sussex-based company Best of British Events but the charity said it is looking for more support in order to keep it going.
