Five people were taken to hospital after a multi-vehicle collision.

At 06:50 GMT, the northbound lane of the A6 Paula Radcliffe Way was closed just north of Bedford between the Brewpoint roundabout and the Oakley turn.

Bedfordshire Police said officers were sent to the scene alongside the county's fire and rescue service.

It added that five people were taken to Bedford Hospital, but their injuries were not thought to be serious.

The force warned there were delays on the southbound route due to a separate incident, but that road has since been reopened.

While vehicles were recovered, the northbound carriageway remained closed.

Bedford Borough Council advised drivers to avoid the area.
