Gunman-facing student officer nominated for award

A student officer who tackled a violent gunman has been nominated for a police bravery award.
PC Richard Broad was on patrol with his tutor on Bridlington seafront when they were alerted to two people believed to be dealing drugs.
One of the suspects pulled out a handgun during the ensuing chase, but the trainee officer tackled him to the ground and kicked the gun from his grip.
Chair of Humberside Police Federation, Lee Sims, said PC Broad had shown "immense courage" for someone "so young in service".
It was later revealed the suspect was a member of an out-of-town gang with links to drug dealing, weapons, and violence.
Humberside Police Chief Constable Paul Anderson said PC Broad had acted "selflessly" and added, "perhaps even more so when you consider he was still within his initial stages of training."
The Police Bravery Awards are due to take place on Thursday 11 July.
