A woman has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a tram.

Emergency services were called to a collision between a pedestrian and a tram on Dudley Street in West Bromwich at about 14:45 BST on Thursday, on the West Midlands Metro which runs between Wolverhampton and Birmingham.

The woman was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham for further treatment, West Midlands Ambulance Service said.

British Transport Police have been contacted for comment.

The tram operator said earlier that services were unable to run between Black Lake and West Bromwich Central due to a "medical emergency" at Dudley Street.
