A woman who died following a crash on the A66 was a "beloved and devoted" wife, sister and aunt, her family said.

Maureen Henley died in hospital following the crash between two vehicles close to the Bridgefoot roundabout near Workington on 22 December.

Family members described the 72-year-old as a keen pianist and horse-rider.

A 19-year-old man from Cleator Moor who was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving has been released on police bail as investigations into the crash continue.

'Devastated'

Mrs Henley, from Cockermouth, also enjoyed motorcycle outings with her husband of more than 40 years, who is known as Adrian, her family said.

They said she leaves behind her husband, brother, nephew and three great-nieces.

The statement said: "The tragic loss of Maureen has left our family devastated."

The crash occurred on the A66 Marron Bridge at about 18:45 GMT and involved a grey and green Suzuki Jimny and a black VW Golf.

One person is still being cared for at Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary while two others injured in the crash have been discharged.

Any witnesses or anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Cumbria Police.
