A man who secretly filmed friends when they came to stay at his house has been jailed for voyeurism.

An investigation was triggered in 2022, when one of Simon Garnett's guests noticed two LED lights in a clock radio while he was showering, police said.

The guest, in Leamington Spa, then worked out the device contained a pinhole spy camera, which he then fled the house with to alert police.

Garnett, 52 and from St Fremund Way, has now been convicted at Warwick Crown Court of eight counts of voyeurism and sentenced to 15 months in prison.

'Appalling offences'

Warwickshire Police said that on the way out Garnett accosted his male guest, pleading: "It was just a cheap thrill, it's just a bit of voyeurism."

Garnett later tried to persuade the victim to return to his home so they could "destroy the memory card together", the force added.

Later that evening, the victim watched the footage and saw himself and other victims showering on different occasions.

However, police were later alerted and three other victims were identified and contacted.

Det Con Claire Scott said this was "an appalling string of offences that saw Garnett abuse the trust of friends".
