'Woefully inadequate' parking draws objection to plans
- Published
The St Helier Roads Committee has objected to plans to turn a garage in St Helier into apartments due to "woefully inadequate" parking provision.
The plans for Lucas House, external in St Clement's Road include 32 flats with a mix of one to three-bedrooms and a commercial unit, together with 16 parking spaces and an electric charging bay.
Although 61 bicycle spaces were included in the proposal, the committee has said it "strongly believes there should be a minimum of one car parking space per unit".
"St Helier parishioners should have the same right to own or park a car as those living in rural parishes," it added.
The committee also expressed concern about the use of Rodney Avenue, a residential street, as access for the proposed development.
The plans for the development are due to be considered by the planning committee later this year.
