A man has been jailed for stabbing another man multiple times and leaving him for dead, police have said.

Officers from Humberside Police were called to a property on Allanby Street in Scunthorpe at 18:30 BST on Monday 3 March to reports of a stabbing, following a row between two people.

Aleksamdr Malkov, 53, also of Allanby Street, had previously pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm with intent in May and was jailed for 10 years and six months at Hull Crown Court on Monday.

Det Con Jonathan Lilley said: "This was an unnecessary attack on a defenceless man who is lucky to be alive. The injuries he sustained, which without intervention, would have likely resulted in his death."

Mr Lilley said Malkov "barged into another resident's room armed with two knives looking to intimidate" him while he was watching TV with his friend.

Malkov instigated the verbal altercation and it soon turned violent when he stabbed the resident three times in the stomach and once in the chest before going back into his own room and leaving the man bleeding out, police said.

Armed officers found Malkov in his room and the injured man was taken to hospital for treatment for serious injuries.

Malkov was charged with attempted murder and denied any involvement in the attack when interviewed by police.

Mr Lilley said it was thanks to his [the victim's] friend who rang for an ambulance and tried to stop the bleeding along with emergency services that the victim was alive today.
