More than 200 new homes will be built on farmland

More than 240 new homes will be built on farmland as part of a wider 1,000-home development.

The plans for land on the edge of Chatteris, just off London Road, Cambridgeshire, were submitted by Barratt Homes Northampton.

The wider development is expected to include a new primary school, playing fields, open space, and a local centre.

The district council agreed to grant planning permission for the development on Friday after planning officers recommended that it should go ahead.

Of the 245 homes, 45 are designated as affordable housing with a mix of social rent and shared ownership, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

The development included a range of house sizes: 103 with three bedrooms, 90 four-bedroom, and seven five-bedroom homes.

The affordable homes would include six one-bedroom maisonettes, 15 two-bedroom, and 24 three-bedroom properties.

Fenland District Council planning officers said that while the housing did not fully meet local needs, the affordable housing provision and green space did.
