A "high quality" gypsy and traveller site has been put forward in plans for a former holiday park.

Applicant Rob Duff, director of Bristol-based Earlsfield Town Planning, has asked for planning advice from Cornwall Council over proposals for a eight-pitch on land which used to be part of the Carbis Bay Holiday Park.

The applicant has asked for advice before submitting a full planning application for the land off Laity Lane.

If eventually approved, the plans would feature an amenity block, space for two caravans, car parking and bin storage for each pitch.

The applicant said the site's entrance would have a security hut and three visitor parking spaces along with recreational space.

The land already has planning permission for a residential development of up to 41 homes, the Local Democracy Reporting Service reported.

In the Cornwall Local Plan, external, the council said 318 permanent pitches for gypsies and travellers would be needed in the county by 2030.

In a supporting statement, Mr Duff said more work was needed to provide the allocated permanent pitches in Cornwall.

He added: "The development will be a high quality Gypsy and Traveller site, designed with an understanding of its location and with full consideration of the development's impact upon the biodiversity, beauty and diversity of the character and setting of Carbis Bay, which will cause no harm to the landscape, biodiversity, geodiversity or historic assets."
