Swimming pool set to reopen after major revamp

A full programme of swimming activities was being launched, the council said

A swimming pool that has been refurbished following a major investment will reopen next week, Telford and Wrekin Council has said.

Wellington Civic and Leisure Centre has been modernised to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions.

Key improvements at the pool have included installing an air source heat pump, new roof and wall installation in the pool hall, along with an energy-efficient hot water system and improved ventilation.

Visitors to the centre will also see refurbished changing areas, new lockers, additional cubicles and a refurbished pool area, when it opens next Tuesday.

The council said the work followed on from similar investment programmes at Oakengates Leisure Centre in 2024 and Newport Fitness and Swimming Centre in 2022.

Councillor Angela McClements said: "We can't wait to welcome swimmers back, including children on swimming lessons."

She said a full programme of swimming activities was being launched and the improvements meant the pool could be enjoyed by current members and future generations to come.

Swim4Life Swimming lessons and the Aquafit class timetable, which temporarily moved to other pools during the works, resume at the site from 1 September.
