Town's first aid centre could be on the move

The centre was opened in a Tesco car park in 2018 after the closure of Hornsea's NHS minor injuries unit

A town's volunteer-run first aid centre, which was set up in the wake of NHS cutbacks, could be moved to a new and more permanent home.

The facility in Hornsea has been run from a small mobile unit in the town's Tesco car park since 2018.

But those in charge of the centre said it now needed to be relocated to somewhere more suitable and with access to electricity.

Both East Riding of Yorkshire Council and Graham Stuart, the town's MP, have pledged to help its relocation following requests from the volunteers.

The unit was created after Hornsea's NHS minor injuries unit was closed and this year alone it has treated about 750 patients.

Charlie Dewhirst, the local authority's deputy leader, suggested the town's leisure centre could be one possible location for the first aid centre's new home.

He told BBC Radio Humberside: "East Riding Council owns a number of sites and assets in the Hornsea area, so we could look to see where it might be appropriate to put this facility.

"We're not saying it would be the leisure centre, but that's an example of a site where we could bring in a number of services to one location."
