Town's Pride event returns for 'amazing' fourth year
- Published
Organisers of a town's Pride event said it meant "an awful lot" to have been able to share it with the local community.
Alsager Pride marked its fourth annual celebration on Saturday, and is among a growing network of Pride events in Cheshire - including those in Congleton and Sandbach.
Sarah Dening, chair of Pride in Alsager, said the event at Alsager Cricket Club showcased the best of the town's spirit.
She said: "I’m feeling absolutely ecstatic, it’s been absolutely amazing."
Michael Unett, Alsager's deputy town mayor, opened the event and said the wider Pride movement had seen “tremendous success” in fighting for LGBT rights and promoting acceptance.
“We must never forget that past the celebrations, the sponsorship, the music, the stalls, Pride started as a protest and we’re here today to celebrate love,” he said.
He added that the parade for this year’s event had been a tremendous success, hailing it as “an array of colour”.
The event, which started at midday, saw entertainment from singer Andy Hofton, drag queen Fonda D and performances by Cheshire Pop Choir and singer Kelley Tigerheart.
