A convicted sex offender who was banned from owning a phone with internet access or photo storage has been jailed after being found with 10 devices stuffed in his mattress.

Cambridgeshire Police said three of the phones discovered at Muhammed Idrees' home in Peterborough had internet access, while seven had built-in cameras.

The force said specialist officers made the discovery after arriving at his Cobden Street address to arrest him on an unrelated matter in April.

The 53-year-old was sentenced to two years and nine months after pleading guilty to three counts of breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order at Huntingdon Law Courts.

Idrees produced two basic phones permitted under his conditions, but was later found to be concealing 10 more.

PC Emily Heriot, from the force's sexual or violent offenders unit, said Idrees's new convictions "reflect the serious sexual risk of harm he poses to children".

"Idrees went to great efforts to conceal his prohibited devices, with complete disregard for his Sexual Harm Prevention Order and notification requirements, which are in place to safeguard the public," she said.

"Our specialist officers work tirelessly to monitor and manage all registered sex offenders in the community and won't hesitate to put them back before the courts if they discover any breaches."
