Gulls 'dancing' on wet concrete cause havoc
- Published
Herring gulls have caused havoc for construction workers by walking on wet concrete laid as part of a regeneration project in Norfolk.
Foundation slabs are being laid in the market place in Great Yarmouth ahead of new paving stones being set on the ground.
But workers have told the BBC that gulls have left footprints in each of the three concrete pours - with each needing to be re-skimmed before it sets.
Carl Smith, leader of Great Yarmouth Borough Council, said it was the latest and most minor setback the £11m project has faced.
Mr Smith added: "We've had Dancing on Ice, now we've got seagulls dancing on concrete. Maybe the BBC should do a new programme - rather than Strictly Come Dancing, maybe Seagulls Come Dancing.
"I know it's Christmas but it is taking the season of goodwill a bit far.
"They're going to have to get a bird scarer on there because it's causing a bit of a hold up because they've got to scare them off and reskim it again.
"We've had problems with cables being in the wrong place, sewers that needed to be moved but to have seagulls dancing on concrete really is the icing on the cake."
