A network of volunteers is being set up to help people overcome barriers to accessing nature across Dorset.

Dorset National Landscape has been awarded more than £248,000 for its Nature Buddies initiative by the National Heritage Lottery Fund.

Specially trained buddies will help people with issues such as overcoming a lack of confidence or accessing transportation.

Anyone interested in volunteering should contact the Dorset National Landscape team.

Phil Sterling, chair of the Dorset National Landscape Partnership Board, said: "This grant will enable us to make a tangible difference, helping communities to help others to experience the joys of nature.

"We're eager to get started."

Project coordinator Jules Hammon said: "At this stage we are particularly keen to hear from organisations that would like to upskill their existing volunteers to be able to offer Nature Buddies.

"All volunteers will receive full training and support.

"Together, we can make a meaningful impact on our community and the natural environment."
