Essex firefighters have urged people to remove glass objects from windowsills after they caused two fires in a week.

Crews extinguished a blaze on Brennan Road in Tilbury, Essex, on Thursday after strong sunlight reflected off a decorative globe on to curtains.

It followed a similar incident involving a magnifying glass in Saffron Walden on Tuesday.

Orsett watch manager Kevin Smith said: "Incidents like this show how powerful the low winter sun can be."
