A woman whose body was found in a village has been identified following a police appeal.

The discovery was made on Friday just before midday in Dawson Lane in the village of Whittle-le-Woods, Chorley.

Lancashire Police shared images of clothing the woman - who was believed to be aged between 40 and 50 - was wearing, in a bid to identify her and to contact her next-of-kin.

Following the appeal, she has been formally identified by her family. Her death is not being treated as suspicious.

Det Insp Paul Price, of Lancashire Police, said: "I would like to thank the community for sharing our appeal to help with this very sad case.

"Whilst it is good news that we have now identified this woman, my thoughts are very much with her family and loved ones at this time."
