Residents have joined forces for a county-wide effort to clean up their neighbourhoods.

Volunteers met outside the Gatehouse Inn, in Bracebridge, Lincoln, as well as the RNLI lifeguard station in Sutton on Sea on Saturday, to take part in the Greater Lincolnshire Litter Pick.

Bradley Wall, chairman of Lincoln and District Trades Council, which organised the event, said the aim was to "make the community a better place" and "bring people together".

Barbara Knight, who took part in the event, said a mattress, bottles, cigarettes ends, and can tops were among items collected from the streets.

"I am surprised and disappointed really because we need to be very aware of it and also teach our children to pick up rubbish and throw it in the bin," she said.

A man with short brown hair, wearing a blue t-shirt and a yellow hi-visibility vest, stood behind two children - a boy and a girl. The boy has short brown hair and is wearing a blue jacket and a yellow hi-visibility vest. The girl has brown hair tied back and is wearing a white hoodie with a yellow hi-visibility vest. The are stood in what looks like a garden area with a large green tree behind them.

Andy says it is important for him and his children to get involved

Andy, who was joined by his two children, Charlie, 5, and Daisy, 7, said: "We are really into the environment and we spend a lot of our time outside, so it's important for us to take pride in it and assist where we can.

"Anything that we can take off the streets is beneficial, not just for the environment but for the community and the way that it looks."

Daisy added that she took part to "save animal lives and to make the world a cleaner place".
