Four people have been arrested following a house fire in Rhondda Cynon Taf.
Police officers were called to reports of the fire in Ferndale at 01:30 BST on Monday morning, with some residents evacuated.
There were no serious injuries but some residents were treated for smoke inhalation, South Wales Police said.
"Early indications reveal that the fire was started deliberately," the force said.
South Wales Police added that three men, aged 18, 19 and 23, as well as a 19-year-old woman, were arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life, and remain in police custody.
Rhondda Cynon Taf council said a rest centre had been set up to support those displaced by the fire.
Food and fuel vouchers had also been provided to those affected and to those accommodating people who cannot return home.
Rhondda Cynon Taf council leader Andrew Morgan said he was "thankful" no-one was seriously injured in this "appalling incident".
Morgan added the council would continue to liaise with the police throughout the investigation.
Police said they were continuing to investigate what happened.
