Rail disruption after Leeds signalling fault

Leeds railway station was closed on Saturday afternoon because of a fault with the signalling system.

Network Rail said the problem happened at about 16:00 BST and was fixed by about 17:00 BST.

The station reopened at 18:00 BST but journeys were expected to be affected for the rest of the day.

On Sunday morning rail services had returned to normal.

On Saturday, train operator Northern reported "severe disruption" on all its services and added: "We ask that customers do not travel."

A spokesperson for Network Rail, which issued updates on its website, external, said: "We are sorry for the inconvenience this is causing.

"We strongly urge passengers to check their journeys before travelling."
