Travel disruption warning over railway works

Services between Shrewsbury and Crewe will be affected by the railway works taking place in July
- Published
Rail passengers are being warned of disruption when renewal works take place between Shrewsbury and Crewe next month.
Bosses said the work would take place from 19 to 21 July to replace track, sleepers and ballast stones as well as infrastructure improvements near Nantwich, Wrenbury and Tilstock.
They said the line between Prees and Crewe would be closed in both directions throughout that weekend.
All trains between Shrewsbury and Crewe will be diverted via Wrexham General and Chester and will terminate at Crewe, they said.
A rail replacement bus service will serve stations between Shrewsbury and Crewe, and an onward train service will operate between Crewe and Manchester Piccadilly.
A reduced shuttle service will also run between Chester and Crewe.
As well as disruption to rail services, road closures will be in place at level crossings in Nantwich, with several expected to operate under local control to provide safe access for engineers and machinery.
Bosses advised travellers to plan ahead and allow extra time for journeys.
