Advocacy support offered to children in care

The government-funded support means eligible children have a free legal entitlement to professional representation

Children with health or development needs or those in care are now eligible for independent advocacy support.

Jersey Minister for Children and Families Constable Richard Vibert signed an order providing the support under the Children and Young People Law.

The government-funded support means eligible children - which also includes those leaving care or under safeguarding arrangements - now have a free legal entitlement to professional representation.

Vibert said: "This support will empower them to express their views, understand their rights, and participate meaningfully in decisions that shape their lives."

The minister published a code of practice setting out the detail of how the services would operate.
