Two teenage boys have been charged in connection with a fire that damaged several shops at a retail park near Edinburgh.

Emergency services were called to Straiton Retail Park, Loanhead in Midlothian at about 21:00 on Monday.

The teenagers - aged 13 and 14-years-old - were arrested following a Police Scotland appeal for information into the fire.

No-one was injured in the blaze, which took place at the rear of the Nandos restaurant.

Police Scotland's Det Con Garry Mauran said: “Thankfully no-one was injured as a result of the fire which has caused significant damage and loss of business to several premises in the area."

A report will be sent to the Scottish Children’s Reporter Administration.

There are about 25 shops and restaurants at the retail centre, including popular franchises such as Greggs, Boots and Pets At Home.

The retail park was able to open as normal.
