Cornwall Council is offering free advice on saving money on energy to people in the county, as well as low-cost loans to eligible homeowners and landlords.

The council said its Homewise tool gives advice on saving money on energy bills and improving the energy rating of people's homes.

It said homeowners and landlords could also be eligible for a low-cost loan through the government's Green Home Improvement Scheme.

Olly Monk, from Cornwall Council, said: "We want to help make Cornish homes warmer, healthier, more energy efficient and kinder to the planet."

More than £500,000 has been lent across the UK through the government-backed loans.

The council said the loans, offered through community interest company Lendology, were available for people living in park homes, but were not available for holiday lets and second homes.

Mr Monk said: "Poor energy efficiency in homes can impact on health and wellbeing, as well as costing more to heat.

"It can be hard to find impartial, practical advice on making changes to our homes which can be costly to introduce but make our homes healthier to live in and cheaper to run."
