Crawley Town fans are expecting the start of a new era on Saturday when Rob Elliot takes charge of his first game for the club, against Wycombe Wanderers.

The new manager joined the club from National League side Gateshead on a two-and-a-half year contract.

He replaced Scott Lindsey, who left Crawley for MK Dons, following a 21 month stint at the West Sussex side.

Despite the departure of the man who "united the fanbase" and gave them "many memories for the future", fans are excited to see how they will get on under a new management regime.

Crawley Town Supporters Alliance's Reuben Watt hopes legacy can be built on

Reuben Watt, who chairs the Crawley Town Supporters Alliance (CTSA), said on paper the ex-Newcastle goalkeeper looks a "sensible appointment".

"I'm hopeful Rob can build on Scott's legacy," he said. "They play the same style of football so hopefully it can be a seamless transition.

"We need to reach the 50 point mark as soon as possible to reach survival. Anything else is a bonus. We need to score more goals so hopefully Rob has the formula for that."

Steve Leake, who helps to run the Crawley Town museum, said Lindsey's departure was "inevitable".

He said: "Wembley was the main stand out memory, but Hartlepool was brilliant too, when he kept us up."

Mr Leake, who is writing a book about Crawley's rivalry with MK Dons and AFC Wimbledon, said the club is entering "a new chapter".

He said Rob Elliot "was a good keeper and had a good season in management with Gateshead. I don't think we will get relegated."

'Be patient'

David, a Gateshead fan who is part of the Heed Army podcast, said Rob Elliot plays "an attacking style of football".

He said: "He put his stamp on us and evolved us as a team; we had a plan B and C. It took us to the next level.

"If Crawley let Rob build a team with his style, it'll be very good when it clicks. But be patient."
