Centre to host weddings near Old Man of Storr

A new visitor centre near one of Skye's best-known landscape features is set to start hosting weddings.

The Storr centre - which opened its doors in July last year - currently has a shop and improved parking facilities for people keen to explore the area.

Last year there were 293,000 visitors to the site near the Old Man of Storr.

The centre generated income of £282,000 for Highland Council which has been spent on road improvements in the surrounding area.

The Old Man of Storr features remnants of volcanic activity 2,800 million years ago and has featured promenently in films including Prometheus and The Wickerman.

Phase two of the Storr project is now beginning and will involve expanding its retail facilities and offering wedding services.

The council said that over the coming months the centre would host between 25 and 30 weddings because another local venue, Tigh-na-Sgire in Portree, is being refurbished.

A report to the local authority's Skye and Raasay Committee said that the "experiences and insights" that would be gained would leave them well-positioned to start the Storr centre's own commercial wedding services next year.
