A police force has urged those behind a moped robbery that saw an off-duty officer stabbed to hand themselves into a station.
The Metropolitan Police constable was trying to thwart a robbery in Luton involving two men who had stolen a moped after brandishing a large knife or machete at the rider.
The stabbing, which saw the officer taken to hospital, took place outside Luton Point, George Street at about 13:10 GMT on Saturday.
Bedfordshire Police has released images of people it would like to speak with. It added the men made off from the scene, one on their moped and the other on the victim’s stolen moped.
Det Insp Caeva Taylor said both of the investigations, into the robbery and the stabbing, were a priority.
"We have numerous witnesses to the incident and we have released CCTV images in the hope that someone may recognise the people or vehicles pictured and come forward with information.
"We are particularly keen to speak with a female witness who spoke with the off-duty officer immediately after the incident and would encourage her to get in contact with us immediately.
“Finally, we would urge the people responsible to hand themselves in to their nearest police station.”
The force said the men made off from the scene, one on their moped and the other on the victim’s stolen moped.
The off-duty officer was taken to hospital and treated for injuries to his arms and chest and is expected to make a full recovery, police said.
