A man and a woman have been taken to hospital

A 14-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of the attempted murder of two people who were stabbed.

The victims, a man in his 70s and a woman in her 60s, were taken to hospital after the stabbing which happened at about 06:50 GMT at an address on Alexandra Road in Ashington, Northumberland.

The pair remain in hospital and are both in a stable condition.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said the teenager currently remains in custody.
