A Wolverhampton breast surgeon has been appointed honorary secretary of the Association of Breast Surgery (ABS).
Dr Raghavan Vidya of the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust said she was proud to take on the role at the association, which is for health professionals caring for anyone with a breast problem.
Dr Vidya, who is also a senior lecturer at the University of Birmingham, has been recognised for her exceptional leadership, clinical expertise, and longstanding commitment to advancing the field of breast surgery.
"I am proud to take on this role and will continue to promote best practice, innovation, and equity in breast care," said the consultant oncoplastic breast surgeon.
Described as a pioneer in her field by her NHS Trust, she introduced muscle-sparing implant-based breast reconstruction, offering improved recovery for patients.
Dr Vidya has published more than 150 peer-reviewed papers, two books on breast reconstruction, and an ebook in collaboration with the Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) and ABS.
She also leads the RCS international surgical training programme in breast surgery.
"As honorary secretary, she will play a key role in shaping the strategic direction of the ABS, contributing to its mission of promoting excellence in breast surgery across the UK," said the association.
"We warmly congratulate her on this well-deserved honour and look forward to the positive impact she will continue to make in this influential role," it added.
