Road reopens following gas leak repairs
- Published
A main road into a town that was closed for several days for a gas leak to be repaired has reopened.
A section of Barkway Road in Royston, Hertfordshire, first shut to traffic on 9 January when residents reported a strong smell.
Gas supplier Cadent confirmed the leak had been fixed and the road resurfaced. It reopened at 22:00 GMT on Tuesday.
A seven-mile (11km) detour was put in place while the works were carried out.
Cadent originally said the works would continue until 16 January.
It added: "These repairs can take time to resolve, but this is to ensure that we continue to provide the safest and most reliable service to our customers."
